Aww, Nuts!

I'm sure everyone has heard about the bird, but VLC is finally being stripped of the only thing he was actually good at. That's right, the nuts are going! Hooray! Apparently top 5 (out of 6) at a color association with injuries from being unable to not act stupid in a stall. Then again, it'll be surprising if she even shows up for the surgery, seeing as how she doesn't live anywhere near her horses. I'm still trying to figure out how she's going to pay for it since she's a notorious moocher. Then again, we also know it's not from her tax return, either. I guess because it's not on auto bill pay like her blog is (even though we all know that she could do the blog for free, funneling more money for her horses cause according to her 'that's what good owners do.')

Speaking of funneling money, despite getting recommendations for stem cell therapy for VLC's injury she has decided that taking the long route to do it was the way to go. She says that mother nature heals tendons the best, but let's be honest. Tendons and mother nature are not a sure thing. Stem cell therapy has shown to do some amazing things. Too bad it costs money. Since she's too busy applauding herself for coming to a decision we came to months ago to realize a good thing in front of her. After all, she's not making money from the VLC at stud or at shows anymore (another badge she thinks she has) so why bother getting him the best care? I thought we were supposed to retire them to the Hilton for horses.

Better yet, she's reaming on Oregon State auctioning off horses they have. She says to make a big deal like Mustang Makeover. Ummm, enrollment may be up for schools, but the drop out rate is just the same. One horse would eat up our tuition paid for my school. Frankly, the $150 is a lot better than the negative number they'll give. Let's not forget how many people don't pay their school fees. While they cannot be declared under bankruptcy, they are not easy things to pay off. Oh, and the alum donating money? I know of only a few alumni actually donating  anything of value. Oh, doesn't she also know that often donations have stipulations with it? Our school has a major donor, but most goes to the athletic department. Can Oregon say the same? Running programs costs huge sums of money. Labs cost money because of gas use for burners. They can run up to 2+ hours in an undergrad lab. Multiply that between 20+ people and that adds up for one class.

Also, I've neglected to see where auctioning horses is against the law. So what if a KB grabs them? The school wants to sell the horses off, and when the KB buys them, they are his to do whatever he wants with. So what if they grab $150. That would be a gift considering today's horse economy.

Also, how does she know there are students who would want to train these horses? Yes I took a breaking and training class, but that cost ME money, too. Halters, lead ropes, headstalls, bits, lunge lines, etc. All things that were at my expense. Oh, I forgot brushes, hoof picks, etc. Most students don't have cash on the side to spare, and most don't have the time to even do such a thing unless they are great at managing their time. Maybe you didn't go to a real college, Fugs, but those of us who did actually had tons of work to go through each week before we could think about having fun.

You're not budgeting queen, Miss Moocher. So don't go preaching about how wonderful you and your ideas are when you can't even pay for a blog on time each month.

Did anyone see this lovely comment?

"Yes, and my first comment was, well, they NEEDED to be spayed. Except for the Arab, and there is a palomino QH mare that isn’t bad, either.
But most of them – glad they’re out of the gene pool (but want them to have happy homes!) There is a QH mare with a total hammerhead. She reminds me SO much of Clover, my old rescue. She is supposed to be ranch broke but bitchy. My kinda mare. But the inn is full, here."

If they're out of the gene pool, they won't be missed when they go do more purposeful things passed on. Also, why do the ones you deem nice not need to be spayed? So we can breed those now?

Also, full here? HERE?! You don't need another horse you'll never see.

  1. Sorry to sound so hateful, but she has NO right to attack a college. That and a drink makes me nice and loose when it comes to it all.

  2. At least where I am ALL state property must go to bid. This doesn't mean dumped, it means selling at bid. The starting bid for EVERYTHING from a Kraken Computer to a ex experimental horse may start at $150.00. Dog alone knows how much it will end up being.

Did anyone else notice these were ex experimental horses? Before I took one home I'd want to know the ramifications of the experiments run on the horse. Maybe it's only having the ovaries removed, maybe it's psychotropic drugs, maybe it's induced navicular. Maybe the horse is ONLY worth $10.00. but the University has to put it up for bid before euthing it. What are the state regulations for the sale of state property? Like it or don't like it, lab rats, dogs, monkeys and horses (computers, phone systems, desks, fluorescent tubes, and bunk beds too) are seen as property to be disposed of in a way that costs the least amount of money for the University.
Cathy seems very good at spending other peoples money.

  3. I read her post on the VLC blog and am stumped as to her logic. The VLC is most likely not going to be sound enough to show in a WP class and yet she thinks that she can geld him and next year they will be ponying polo ponies?

    HUH???

I did not know that gelding was a magic cure all for lameness.

Fugs obviously does not 'get it'. If you have a horse you believe in, you figure out how to make things work.

It all sounds like a major cop-out to me. She hasn't 'proved' anything to the horse world. The only thing gelding the VLC is going to do is make it easier for her to dump the horse onto someone else to care for. Poor horse.

  4. Wait, what? Does she have another VLC blog other than the original? Because the last post was dated February 1st and the most recent comment was March 30th. Wondering where she broke this news...

  6. I had to laugh at her statement that she could have bred a 'ton of mares for lots of money'...oh hell no. The toughest thing about 'proving' a stallion is to find owners of quality mares that are willing to risk breeding to an unknown stud. To prove a stud you have to have fabulous babies on the ground. No one, but no one, is going to chance breeding to an unknown stud with lameness issues if they have any sense at all...

  7. Bye, bye, VLC, Hello, VLG.

    About freakin' time.

  8. And usually a horse gets donated to a college for a reason. The reason usually being that it's the horse's last chance. I would not pay money for a university horse.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I know of 3 horses who were donated to a university.

One was a young horse (3) who looked nice enough, until she went into training. After a year of training, she pulled up lame. Rest for 6 months, started the training, got to about the same level (walk, trot, canter on either lead, and back) dead lame. Repeat this cycle for another year. Final conclusion, the horse would never be working sound.

Second horse was an older former show mare. Boy she was hot. Felt like riding a runaway train. Nicely bred, had one REALLY NICE foal. (the foal when on to be a champion saddlebred driving horse) But in this economy who wants to breed? Too old to show competitively, too hot to be ridden by an average rider, too expensive to breed. What to do? This is where Cathy says "she has earned her retirement" but her owners can't afford to keep her. Husband company went bust, she is a school teacher. Income went from $135,000.00 to $35,000.00. They are selling (or trying to sell) their house too. His former company owes them back pay. They aren't counting on getting in. Any how, most folk don't want the mare. So she was donated to a vet school.

Final horse was a young horse that just wasn't going to be talented enough to be a show horse. Sound and kind, but no home for her in a show barn. Again no one wanted to buy her, too hot for an average rider, not enough talent for a show barn. Cathy says there is always a home for a well bred horse. Find one for this horse please. Well bred, no talent, a hot personality. She was donated to a university with a riding program. So the advanced riders would have something to learn about hot horses on. Her former owners tried for 2 1/2 years (she is now just over 4) to find her a home an spent nearly $10,000.00 on her (training)trying to get her less hot. It was clear from an early age that this girl had no talent. They did their best to find a niche for her, tried other disciplines western pleasure, nope she wasn't a "pleasure" to ride, HUS, nope, same problems, dressage? nope, field hunter? nope. Her personality was a problem. She wasn't vicious, just hot. When she was planned for, if she had the talent her daddy and momma had, her hotness would have been an asset, it would have given her stage presence. A glamor if you will. But with out talent all you saw has a hot horse preforming poorly.

  10. I just spent some time reading all the comments on the OSU post. Lot o' variety of opinion there.

Some sound (like Cathy does) if they are horses are not livestock folk, they are pets. Some sound like they object to the idea of corporate ownership of a horse (as opposed to, say, a little girl in a white organdy dress with a blue sash ownership)
Cathy, what happened to the core conservative value of the least government being the best government?

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's a little disturbing to me that such a young horse would develop such a serious lameness issue so easily. I'm glad she gelded him too.

I'm new here, and not real familiar with all the issues but... I thought the owner of the VLC was sort of adamantly against breeding? I guess I didn't understand. I was surprised to learn here today she owned a stallion.

As far as ownership: Funny how there are those who decide that now that THEY own a horse, they can decide who else might be worthy. I guess they forget that at some point, someone trusted them enough to sell them their first horse. I doubt anyone starts out with their very first horse as the perfect owner. I think everyone makes mistakes, as that is part of the learning process.

The people who are scary are the ones who refuse to learn; at least one definition of "stupid" would be someone who keeps doing the same thing and expects different results. Those are people who should not own a horse, and if you know them, why, you don't sell them a horse. But you can't know that in advance, and at some point you have to trust people to at least some extent.

Not everyone is an evil horse abuser.

  12. We had experimental horses at VTech. Most of them were used in nutrition studies (ie, feed this or that?) type things. The real med stuff was done through the vet school.

The year I graduated, the head of the horse program retired and they're now breeding and marketing some spectacular looking warmbloods. Before it was mostly grade QHs.

Everything bred on site was used in class. I had some doofy looking anglo arab that was sweet but not the sharpest tack in the box. We didn't have to provide any equipment, though.

  13. Welcome HB, we are a sensible lot here. Opinionated but never mean or hateful. I have issue with the fugsters methodology and her hypocrisy (this is especially noted in the idea that she was keeping the horse a stud and waiting for him to get the ROM and all that BS) Take a look now, she's constantly ragging at people about the condition of their horses and yet she and her trainer REALLY don't know what VLC did to himself, she's going to let mother nature take care of it and she can't wait to hit a polo ball from him. Come on now! She is epitome of the irresponsible horse owner she shreds on her site. She doesn't go see her horse, she is behind in bills, she doesn't handle her own horse, her horse has been ungelded and Oooops bred mares accidentally, and now its injured and she is neglecting his care. Way to go, Cathy!!

  14. I found it hilariously funny that the vet's diagnosis and treatment protocol was soundly dismissed. I'm not for day after day after day injections, but they CAN help with healing!
Vets go to school for this stuff, and they learn on (drum roll) cast-off horses!
Where did I read that vet schools cannot get subjects for dissection.. Because the slaughter trade stopped the supply?
I don't say this is accurate, I'm just repeating what I've read, SOMEwhere.

VLC had stifle issues way back when.

And yeah, if you aren't THERE, how the hell do you know????

  16. Drink another one CS!!!! Brilliant post.

One other thought...the insurance premiums covering a University to turn green people loose on trying to train known nut job horses would be astronomical!

Kaede, interesting synopsis of the well bred but untalented horse. That's why cast off show horses have a hard time finding homes. They are bred to do a specialized class, and are usually not suited to be a family horse. I did say usually, because we all know of horses that have made the transition successfully, however genetics do make a big difference.

  17. Kes- For my class we signed waivers, but that may vary depending on a whole host of factors. I ended up breaking my toe that semester 4 weeks in. It was a very very long semester after that. Filly I had decided that she'd make a hard left and just nailed my foot as we came around the gate. I miss that mare. She's still at the school, though. You don't miss the only red dun in the field of bays! They were apparently reining bred, but I saw the potential for hunter in her then. Now she's such a chunker I don't know! Like, her QH booty blew up!

    ReplyDelete
  18. It depends on the state you're in. Some states have equine laws in place that basically say that if you get hurt by a horse the owner is not liable unless there is negligence involved. I'm just waiting for someone to sue because they were not wearing a helmet and got hurt. That could go either way. I post signs with the laws of the state on them, and signs that say helmets are mandatory for children and adults must sign a waiver with warnings in it, so if someone gets a head injury they will not be able to say they 'didn't know a helmet might prevent injury.' Always have riders sign an affidavit to the fact that they have their own health insurance that will cover accidents, and carry some type of insurance that covers negligence.

Waivers are only good if the people signing the waiver believe they can't sue. It's pretty easy to get around a waiver.

It's sad that people sue but it's a fact, so keeping the ole' hiney covered is a good idea.

  19. @GoLightly: this stallion had STIFLE ISSUES and was not gelded yet?!

    Christ of the Andes.

Stifle issues are a fairly serious concern, and I'm not just guessing here. I've got a fabulous driving mare I'm considering having spayed (if I can raise the cash for it). No need to pass on that heartache to someone else.

  20. I've finally realized how dumb my comment that I wouldn't call AC on fugs, really is. How could I?
She doesn't have any horses in her immediate life.

OH, there ya go, CS! I knew I'd read that somewheres:)
I have read of corroboration to your point, too.
Real world VetMed experiences need practiced, on living creatures. It's one of the hardest things my buddy vet went through as a student. But it's important to learn in realtime, not on a computer simulation, imo.

Yeah, HHB, on the old VLC blog, and maybe the old blog too, she talked about how he was sore in one stifle, no idea why? Can't remember. His lack of actual turnout/regular exercise, and his straightish hind legs had SOMEthing to do with it, imhumbleo.
I've learned to not read her. It's healthier for me.

  21. Vivisection is viewed as animal abuse to the PETA and HSUS folks and some fringe groups out there, like ALF. There is no way I'd want to study vet medicine without animal models, or to be a skilled farrier for that matter, but those kinds of organizations are pushing for computer simulations, as GoLightly mentions.
I worked as a lab technician in a neuroimmunology research lab and we had animals that had aquired the autoimmune motor disease, myasthenia gravis. One was a Springer spaniel puppy (they, akitas, and German shepherds seem to get it more than other dog breeds). We all took great care of this pup, and she was our lab pet. When she died, her tissue was taken, and she contributed much more to the disease than a computer model ever could have.
Today, researchers are moving away from mammals and using lower forms of life in disease models, such as zebra fish and even nematodes! Still, I think all life forms need to be treated with respect and given good care, even if they end up in a lab setting. I am thinking that these mares at OSU have been given good care and that's evident in their photos- by seeing their shiny coats and good body weights.

  22. So ironic she would write about the university, when I heard she still owes about $20K on her own student loan, even after all these years. Plus, how can a person spend $7K to get to a horse show in Oklahoma but not pay $1,000 for a vet bill to cure lameness in a horse she seems to love and treasure? Is she still paying off the Oklahoma disaster and has no money?

Anyway, the update here is that the VLC pulled his stifle. Probably did it playing in the mud - he does not see the presence of mud as any reason he shouldn't gallop and slide stop and do rollbacks. So he is just taking it easy and I'm hoping he's back to 100% to go to training in November but you all know it'd just be Murphy's Law of Horses that he won't be...

Don't know if they're current, or if they (or Sean) know that Fugs is the new agent. Licensed to e an agent? What are the odds? 28. Paddy, I don't think you meant vivisection, that would mean the animals are alive when the are cut into. In the USA anyhow it's tough to get permission.
    From wikipedia
"Research requiring vivisection techniques that cannot be met through other means are often subject to an external ethics review in conception and implementation, and in many jurisdictions, use of anaesthesia is legally mandated for any surgery likely to cause pain to any vertebrate. In the U.S., the Animal Welfare Act explicitly requires that any procedure that may cause pain utilize "tranquilizers, analgesics, and anesthetics", with exceptions when "scientifically necessary". The Act does not define "scientific necessity" or regulate specific scientific procedures; instead, approval or rejection of individual techniques in each federally-funded lab is determined on a case-by-case basis by an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, which contains at least one veterinarian, one scientist, one non-scientist, and one individual from outside the university."

By the by, wikipedia is a great information source for quick and dirty information. Just as reliable as Encyclopedia Britticanica. Bunch of information scientists got together and did research projects on this. Now should you trust wikipedia or mistrust Encyclopedia Britticanica?
My answer is to check out the references from the article, and figure out who is writing and citing them.

  29. Um y'all, I just did a little leg work on Cathy Atkinson/Sean Young. It seems that Cathy is the member or president of Sean Young's fan club (This is a free hosting site) Now maybe Sean's agent should be a member of her fan club, but most talent uses someone who can get them jobs, the the William Morris Endeavors, Creative Artists Agency, International Creative Management or United Talent Agency. But Sean has a reputation of being hard to deal with. A talent agent gets a percentage of what their client is paid. If you don't work or your pay is very low, who better to be your agent than some one who likes to be in the star shine? That maybe Cathy's only pay in this case. I remember reading that for a while Sean would autograph almost anything (for a fee) you sent to her. I know of no Cons that wants actresses who are headaches.

  33. I just read the article on the OSU horses going to auction and clicked over to see them. All seem to be in wonderful health, but I am deeply disturbed by this. They've all had their ovaries yanked out and none have had any other training or assessment beyond halter broke. It would appear papers are not offered with any either. I just, personally, find animal testing in any form disgusting. I'm a human so I want the drugs and products available to me tested on other humans. I think there are more than enough assholes sitting on death row for years and years before we humanely destroy them, to do lots of lab tests on. I think convicted murderers etc. have already lost their basic rights along with taking other's rights away so that is a pretty fair trade off. They chose to become criminals, animals do not choose to become lab experiments....Ughh, I could go on all day but I'm starting to sound like Cathy....I pray those mares at OSU can find happy homes. :(

I am also going to call BS on VLC having a tendon injury of any kind, let alone one from kicking a wall in his sleep. I think Cathy has latched onto something like that because she doesn't want to admit he's got major and ongoing stifle issues. That's probably the prime reason for his gelding too. The way that horse looks behind, he may have difficulties mounting a mare of dummy for collection. As for paying off her trainer...we shoudl do an accounting of how many of Cathy's sponsored `rescues' are currently on the trainer's sale or sold list. I think Cathy was funnelling rescue horses (that she got her readers to bail out) in exchange for some of her fees. May be a long shot or a wild guess, but it would not surprise me if it was true. Notice she never mentions Hercules anymore? Where is he?

I don't really follow celebrities, but as far as I recall, Sean Young is washed up and crazy as a shithouse rat. Seems a perfect match for Cathy....it should make a highly amusing trainwreck when they part ways as well....

Ok, after all that bitchiness, I'm off to go do and say nice things to people I love so I feel less `dirty'.....Those OSU mares just really bothered me and put me in a bad mood...

    lolasl

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Anonymous at 10:11: You are very clever. I would never have thought of that "funneling" scenario for paying off the trainer. Whether true or not, it's creative thinking. As for Sean Y., I just saw on the internet that she's on a soap, The Young And The Restless, so seems to be making a comeback. I have serious doubts whether Fugs has the contacts to have gotten her that job. I hope being publicly linked to Fugs doesn't damage her comeback. I can't help but wonder if she has a regular talent agency and even knows about Fugs posting herself as agent.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I looked up Sean Young's agent on IMDb website, and it's "Diverse Talent Group," which is an actual licensed talent agency in a regular office building, not Fugs. What is she trying to pull? Does she think that someone wanting to offer Sean a job might be diverted to Fugs' "agent" posting instead of going through Sean's actual agency, and Fugs will get the commission instead? I think major talent agencies would want an exclusive contract. Or maybe there has been a change that isn't showing up on the internet yet and it is all innocent?

  40. I love their desc.

Famed (Crazy horse) "Hercules" has is own Facebook Page with over 1,600 fans (or people who cannot form their own opinion without Fugs). He was purchased from the kill pen, after his owner took him to the feedlot and asked that he be sent straight to kill (because the horse was going to rip her limbs off, most likely). This 16 year old beauty was apparently schooled through PSG, and is a talented jumper (but only when he's out to get you). He will only stay sound for flatwork and trails (but we told you he was a talented jumper anyway even though it's irrelevant). He is a perfect gentleman in the right environment (like when you leave him the hell alone). Must have turnout, a herd or one friend, and he responds amazingly well to quiet, loving, affectionate people (who are on the other side of a pipe fence and maintain a distance of 300ft).

Parenthesis is my take on it. What a bunch of idiots.

BEC, it is pretty obvious, what has all his training been in? wp. Still no reason he couldn't be a wp gelding! But his show career has been less than steller, and maybe she had figured out he isn't cut out to be a wp horse. 43. Morning all....I would say that VLC/G will be rehomed almost immediately. And, probably BEFORE his gelding. I can see him being shipped off with papers lifted, no coggins and the big lie of how he was humanely put down. I would not put it past her to set up a donate to his memory fund and scam $$$ of people. As for the real world of horses, over the weekend a new face showed up at our place. A dappled palomino qh mare, 16 yrs old and blind in her left eye. She is gentle and kind, rides like a dream and is going to be the new mount for our little non-verbal, rider with the eye problems. Missi was in a bad situation and is the perfect mount for our special needs rider, so I could not say no to her owner who is ending a violent marriage and cannot keep the horse. Missi has lived the last 2 yrs of her life as a solitary horse being the mount for a 6 yr old boy and 9 yr old little girl. Life for her was not pleasant as their is a discrepancy how she lost her eye....but her owner feared for her life and now Missi is living with us. I suppose Missi's owner would have been crucified as her only other option if we didn't take her was the FREE horse on CL or call "someone" to come and get her. Missi is an example of the hundreds of horses out there and why the route fugs blog has now taken is so horrible. I say again, get off your ass FUGS and contribute to the solution...not the problem!

  46. Oh LEG, what a sad story, with such a happy ending. The very last thing the poor owner and her kids would need is a bunch of teenage shrills self righteously attacking her, when she is the bravest person ever. It takes amazing courage to end a situation like that, and it won't be over for a long time. It makes me crazy when people say "well why didn't she leave?" Domestic violence is a crime, yet the victim gets creamed by the perp and is also blamed for the crime...rant coming on...back away from the keyboard...whew.

Whatdaya mean you're not setting up a facebook page, trumpeting about your amazing rescue skills and asking for dollars?$$ (Don't get me wrong here, that type of rescue is the MOST amazing, but I think that if you use a good deed for nothing but bragging rights and money making, it rather dilutes the good deed.)

Now I'm asking...soooo, she's known VLG has stifle issues all along, rode him anyway so they could show him out of hubris and vanity, and it's her so that's okay?! Palmforehead...

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think it comes down to a question of love. We do what we do because we love our horses and we love the students who come to learn with us. We strive to teach this love to all who ride with us but I wonder if you can really teach it. Does Cathy love VLC? I don't think so. I think she loves the notoriety of her blogs & I think she is IN LOVE with the idea of becoming famous on the back of a horse. But I cannot wrap my head around the facts that she has allowed him to be trained while injured, dismisses vet recommendations concerning the injury, chastises him for the wall kicking (if this in fact is going on because lord knows she has not witnessed it daily) and now is bragging about using him for polo and STILL think she could LOVE him. Make no mistake, Cathy loves herself and that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, she does seem to live in her own "reality." But I think she was already emotionally attached to him at the time she bought him. Probably saw a chance to have a horse that was at least better quality than she ever had before without putting out much money since most of his purchase price was money owed to her she would never see again anyway. I'm guessing she hoped to breed him just enough to pay for his keep (thus making it "free," apparently one of her favorite words). I doubt she'd ever euthanize him because I think she really does care for him; I doubt she'd even re-home him (but maybe I give her too much credit). She does seem to love the limelight and cozying up to celebrities who are also involved with animal rescue.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Seems that Cathy's trainer has either been fired or cut the ties with Cathy. There is no longer any pictures of BYC on their website or facebook nor is there any mention of him anywhere. She also removed the rescue mares that were on there. Strange.....I guess this means that BYC is probably headed to Oregon where Cathy has the Big Gold Colt stashed along with that mare Lucy and BYC's oops baby. Most trainers don't remove all evidence of a horse off their websites when the owners take them home or they are sold on....I'm guessing there was a falling out of some sort....wonder if Cathy slept with hubby again?

    lolasl

    ReplyDelete
  50. How do you get emotionally attached to something that's not yours??? Oh wait, we are talking about a women who sleeps with other's husbands. :x (did i say that..shame on me)

But seriously, I am holding up the BS paddle on the whole emotionally attached malarky. If ANYTHING, she was emotionally attached to how famous she thought poor VLC would make her. She pictured herself rubbing elbows with the creme de la creme of upper equine society and being able to boast how she did it without lowering herself to the "crank and yank" training and blah blah blah...

This woman has no love. If she did, she could not time and time again rip youngsters apart and go after innocent people with such malice and hatred.

Sorry, I don't buy that she ever loved VLC. Anyone else care to have a BS paddle. They are FREE...... ;)

  51. OMG-Fugs is a 'houseguest'?

    Now that is too funny.

    It's also not surprising.

I've always wondered about the celebrity penchant for keeping a houseguest...Are they kind of like human pets?

Oh...and all evidence of her has been removed from the training barn?

    Big surprise! (sarcasm intended)

With fugs, it's never a matter of IF she is going to ruin a relationship, just a matter of WHEN.

  52. Yup, Cathy is probably Sean Young's own little `Kato Kaelin'....if Cathy is really lucky Sean will go batshit nuts for real and she can be the world's second most famous houseguest....

  53. I just wonder in what part of Crazytown is a stallion of no repute going to breed tons of mares while his owner laughs all the way to the bank?

Standing a stallion isn't cheap. Marketing a stallion isn't cheap. Finding a reputable breeding facility that will take him into their program when they are having to offer additional discounts and reduce the fees of WC QH stallions that are proven producers would be near impossible. The notion that he would actually make money is laughable.

Posted on January 19, 2010 at 10:40 AM

    Check it Out!

In the column "Stable Thinking" (Page 62) of the brand new February Issue of "Horse Illustrated". Crystal is quoted as a consulting expert in the article.

Guess she forgot to take that reference off her website

    ReplyDelete
  58. Thanks, CS. IIRC, there were a couple more pics of him on the FB page before. Really does make you wonder if it was a Fugly vs Barn issue, or if the barn just decided to put up only pics that made them look good. The VLC/G is cute, but the pics of him stood out just by how "ordinary" he looked.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Re another anon's remark about the sale page: wow!! And notice how many are repeat breedings of the same stud (Scandalous Legacy) to three or four mares. Lots of full siblings on that page.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Okay...I'm at work, and I'm bored. After seeing how many full siblings there are being sold through Cedar Hills, I did a search on the sire's name, and found these folks: http://www.risingrainbowarabians.com/arabian-mares.htm

Looks like most of their sale horses came from this place. Hasn't Fugly said that any barn that has rainbow in their name is automatically a bad one? I'm not much of a judge of horses, but this place looks pretty good. Although I still wonder about putting so many full siblings on the ground...I thought that was unusual in the horse world.

    ReplyDelete
  61. LEG - nice work. I hope she is able to get out and stay safe,. I've read a few papers that say that often the pets are used as a tool against the woman and/or her children which it sounds like your horse is a victim of. In the last 12 months a guy has been proceuted for killing his now ex partners horse when she left along with a raft of other charges.
In an excellent piece of co-operation between the spca and womans refuge, and the police, if a woman is leaving a dangerous situation the SPCA will arrange secure housing for her animals and arrange so that she and any childern she has can have access as it often helps the children to have access to their pets.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've been reading the rising rainbow blog (http://risingrainbow.blogspot.com/) for quite a while now. To my mind that's not an irresponsible backyard breeder. Not perfect, but who of us is? Personally, I find her take on arab bloodlines informed and interesting. She has a lot of interesting info about training and shares both the good bits and bad bits of running a small breeding herd.

She campaigns her stallion, trains up her babies and believes she's responsible for the horses she breeds.

The bits on the sale page are basically due to liquidating her herd due to retirement. But, she just went out and sued someone who bought one of her colts for some reasons. She hasn't told us the whole story, but he's home and she's in the midst of rehabbing him.

If Cathy had *half* the horse sense that rising rainbow does, VLC would probably have his ROM by now.

    ReplyDelete
  63. BEC, where did you find that Cathy was Sean's "houseguest"? I saw her as president of Sean's fan club, and I saw a site that listed Cathy as her agent. (could be a mistake, some one believing that is Fan Club president was the same as an agent).

Personally, I want any major new drug test first on an animal. If all the pigs turn up their toes, figure out why before you test on a human.

You can't test drugs on prisoners. Prisoners are considered to be in the same position as children and can't make decisions about their health and welfare. Think of it this was a toddler can punch another kid, but they can't sign a contract. Toddlers (and prisoners) are too apt to be persuaded by coercion (remember information going in and out of prisons is limited) of the folks in charge. Like "the warden says if I participate in this experiment I'll get time off for good behavior." When the warden had no right to say any such thing.

For me, it makes me queasy to think about experimenting on prisoners. Shades of Communist China. Don't protest to loudly or you will end up in prison being experimented on on "donating" a kidney to the politburo.

  64. Dear Dog, Cathy is kicking a man who is trying to get up. Merlin Dicke old company closed it's doors, so he retrained to work in a wine yard. He was the oldest person to be trained.

Good on him. Isn't this what Cathy is always saying, if your job goes belly up, don't whing about it, don't ask for a government handout, get retrained (at your own expense please). Do you know for sure Cathy that Merlin had ANY thing to do with his wife's horse?

    ReplyDelete
  65. No, what I was saying (and I really do realize this will never come to pass) is that anybody on death row that has murdered children, innocents, etc. does not have any rights at all. They are being housed, fed and looked after until such a time they exhaust all their appeal options and we kill them anyhow. Perhaps using them as lab rats would force them to contribute something else to society other than costing tax payers money. Just my own personal view, but it makes me far more queasy to think of an animal being used for that than some soulless asshole that raped and murdered a child......Again, my opinion only...I tend to like most animals a lot more than most people I encounter most days...

I think that info on Cathy being Sean Young's agent may be a bit old. It also says she is married to Robert Lujan while one of the older linked articles says they divorced a few years back....Maybe Cathy was the person renting one of her guesthouses that kicked up a fuss and reported her to city hall for having illegal rental units after she got evicted (also talked about in the link article)....sounds like something Cathy would do...

I have to go creep on facebook some more. I do find it really odd that all evidence of Cathy is long gone off Cedar Hill stuff when she was clearly adminning their facebook page at one point. I do remember her kinda posting too much about how much she adored her trainer's hubby for hauling VLC to OK for his last show ever....maybe she appreciated that a bit too much.....

    lolasl

    ReplyDelete
  66. Death row is more than a little spooky here in NC. It turns out the the SBI (State bureau of investigation) was fudging on the evidence a bit to get convictions. Like putting people at the scene of a crime who weren't even there. Asking the AG what evidence was needed to convict and them making it themselves, suppressing evidence that exonerated the defendant. A number of folks have just gotten sprung from death row here in NC because of SBI "creative ideas" towards evidence.

  67. Wow, it didn't take much poking around to find out for sure where the stockpile of Fugly's horses are....

They ARE at this farm in Oregon. Even more interesting, that mare she rescued (High Falutin Fox), that was at VLC's trainer's farm and offered on their sale page at one point, I think I recall, is now at this farm in Oregon along with Lucy (TB mare that keeps coming back), Her palomino 2yr old that is now ugly as sin, VLC's `oops' baby, and I'm sure a few others. Check out this link and see if you can identify any other Cathy `rescues' that she never actually sees in person...

    http://helpingjoy.blogspot.com/

The thing with this High Falutin Fox horse is that she was featured on the fugly blog a few months back. She was part of that paint dispersal where all those nice old mares got dumped at a kill auction and Cathy featured the farm on her blog. At the time, this mare in particular was NOT thin at all. She is now quite thin and was only recently picked up from somewhere else...funny how Cathy doesn't post about this...

This farm that she is dumping her horses at (I am betting that VLC is on his way there if not there already) seems like a very nice farm owned by a nice lady. I feel like somebody should tell her to severe all ties and run for the hills....How does Cathy keep finding people to sucker?

    lolasl

    ReplyDelete
  68. My guess, just reading between the lines here is that Cathy has gone into, or is going into hiding.
Maybe she has been sued and lost and is slapped with a judgment, or her trainer has been harassed to no end for being associated with her, maybe she went after her trainers husband, I dont know the inside story but SOMETHING is up.
She has been removed off the website, removed off the FB page, and she is taking the horse to CA with her and refusing vet care?
That sounds like someone hiding and someone who is BROKE possibly due to having to pay restitution? a judgment? maybe her own rent, for being caught with someones husband or with someones possessions....?
All I know is those things add up to someone trying to reduce their visibility and a potential burned bridge with her trainer...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Lolasl that farm is not in Oregon that farm is in WA. The person who owns it is NOT a nice person. I live near her and know her. She is a snooty snotty uppity rescue bitch just like Cathy is. A kindred spirit if you will.
Somehow Cathy has convinced her to board all of her rescue horses there. I wonder what kind of deal she give her.
I also know that the horse Kaci that is on the site is an older TB she rescued, then sold to a kid. She was told repeatedly that the horse was not being cared for, was very thin and his feet were in terrible shape and she did nothing. NOTHING. Neither did you buddy Cathy. Why? because Karen's place was full of Cathy's horses and there was no room for Kaci.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The funny thing about her getting VLC in exchange for money owed to her by YHI is that whole scandal where Cathy admitted that she wrote rubber checks to cover feed costs. So basically, Cathy bounced a few checks and got herself a horse....I diagnose his lameness as an untreatable injury to the karma ligament....

I was mistaken that her palomino colt is still at that farm...seems she has sent him off to training as well....Seriously, where does she get her cash? I guess if I didn't have tax and other deductions on my pay, I could afford a few more things too...

Here is a posting from the summer re: Frankie (the BGY aka big gold yearling)

"Cathy decided that it was time, come hell or high water, for Frankie to go to Big Boy School. She also decided that it was time to give up and stop throwing good money trying to "fix" a horse. I'm talking about Lucy. (FROM THE COMMENTS) - Lucy is not ex-CBER. She was rescued from the July 2008 Enumclaw sale (well, from the kill pen afterward) by a client of Signature West Farms in Spanaway. Lucy has had some pro training but she is blind on the left side and while she CAN ride quietly (I have seen it!) she is spooky about mounting. She is still available for adoption but I know her chances aren't good and I'm cool with boarding her the rest of her life if needed. However, if anyone does NEED a companion horse, she does get along great with everybody, loves babies, and to the best of my knowledge would work fine as a recipient mare. She has definitely been used as a broodmare (why, we will never know...). Tattoo is illegible but we think we see an X, so she is 18.

So Cathy asked if she could swap Frankie for Lucy, since board is so much cheaper here. (Actually, EVERYTHING is cheaper here than in Western Washington.)"

Also BYC's young oops foal was mysteriously lame this summer...they never found out why and he hasn't even had a saddle on him yet....good to know those good soundness genes are getting passed along...

  73. Back in the day, Broomball was a way to introduce beginners to polo. Sort of like polo for people who are afraid of going to fast. Or swinging mallets. Or flying balls.

Instead of mallets, you used brooms. Instead of a polo ball, you use a kids safety ball, (red playground balls are too hard and don't pop easily enough) you must pass the broom under the horses neck to change hands and no high sticking.

  74. I'm guessing two possible reasons for VLC and Fugs' absence from Cedar Hills FB: (1) falling out over not paying the money owed for the Oklahoma fiasco; or (2) hiding the VLC because he might be only asset valuable enough to attach if there is a lawsuit or for IRS to force her to sell for back taxes. Just guessing.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Doubt the IRS would force a sale of that horse. He's basically worthless given the fact he has been unsound on and off for the past two years and isn't really good for anything. If she was in bankruptcy he would be valued by the pound..... More likely she owes money or bounced a check....that's her pattern isn't it?

Looking at that farm she has her other animals stashed....if you scroll back a bit she does keep some of her horses a bit ribby. There are picks of VLC's colt and he is all ribs in the summer.....weird.

    ReplyDelete
  76. OK Cathy, We know you read over here, what happened at Cedar Hills. Everyone at some point needs to change trainers, distance, changing interests, new discipline, change in finances for good or ill. Normally your previous trainer doesn't wipe out your history with the barn. If it was a good relationship, they will use you as a reference.
While we are at it, can one, just one, of your former students come forward?

    ReplyDelete
  77. YHI here,
For everyone's reference, I NEVER asked Cathy to write a bad check. That was a little scheme she and her lover cooked up. I was only trying to make her whole by taking the balance of the bad checks off the cost of the horse. I never received any cash remuneration from her bad check writing, i was just trying to do the right thing....

    ReplyDelete
  78. YHI, I wasn't pointing any fingers at you. Just the fact that you have acknowledged that you took the money you may have owed Cathy off the price of BYC. Seems you probably didn't owe her any actual money since the checks she wrote were mostly made of rubber....it sounds like she paid for your horse in things she obtained via writing bad checks. Not really your fault, but I do have to wonder how she managed to get away with that and not get a charge.....

    lolasl

    ReplyDelete
  79. Maybe she avoided being charged for bad checks if the bank paid them and then closed the acount if it wasn't reimbursed. If the bank hadn't honored them, maybe whomever she wrote them to would have pressed charges. I guess a bank could charge her, as well, but I don't know if it would bother, depending on the amount. Or maybe all a bank could do is file a civil action if it pays them voluntarily. Maybe a bank can't press charges like a vendor who accepted a check as payment could do if the check bounces.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I doubt she's hiding from bad check charges or IRS. If she is actually hiding at all, it may just be for personal safety and/or to avoid being served with any lawsuit. Whether there was a case and even it was a good case or not, it would cost her to have to defend it. And if she didn't defend it, she would lose it automatically. Or maybe she has some embarrassing personal circumstances and doesn't want people to see where and how she really lives or what she drives if her image could be damaged.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Why would any woman stay with a man and write bad checks to cover expenses and not expect him to pay those expenses instead of her?

Unless she is a woman whose her father left her when she was very young, causing classic co-dependency symptoms. These symptoms could include an ongoing need to "win daddy back" by always going after unavailable men, especially those who can be stolen from another woman.

In that way, one can keep trying to recreate and "fix" the early childhood hurt over and over again, ostensibly to make it turn out different from when she was little. Often the men she is attracted to are also "broken" in some way, like from substance abuse or other addictive behavior. Co-dependent women often have a personal identity of "rescuer" as their entire self-label. If their man gets help and recovers, the co-dependent woman's whole sense of identity is then threatened and the relationship sometimes ends. Then she has to go out and find another "broken" man to fix.

Often such a person will also immerse herself in rescuing and/or hoarding animals to the point of driving oneself into poverty. Sometimes a damaged inner child can only relate emotionally to animals and not people.

A really bad case of co-dependency could cause a woman to chase married men while also frantically rescuing animals. She may also try to save animals who are not as deserving of a good home as are other friendlier, mentally or physically healthier animals with a more promising future. She may bypass them because they are not as "broken" as the animals or men she is drawn to.

    Sound like anyone you know?

    ReplyDelete
  82. One more thing about the co-dependent woman is that sometimes she will reject mentally healthier or available men who show an interest in her. Or if she does date them, she will sabotage such relationships and cause these men to reject her, thus recreating childhood rejection and setting the stage for her to again pursue a "broken" situation for her to fix.

Sometimes it doesn't even have to have been caused by a father who left, sometimes it is one who was killed or just emotionally detached or one who traveled a lot for work and was physically unavailable. Often it will also occur if one or both parents were alcoholics.

Such a person may have little patience with alcohol or substance abuse and very critical of abusers, thus not falling victim herself, yet still pursue men who have substance abuse problems or other issues in an effort to fix them.

Well, end of brilliant psychology lecture. Have to go to bed now so I can be well-rested by morning for my job as a leaf-blower.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Interesting stuff!

I do have to say, I think some people are just assholes... Usually they have lots of opportunities to 'get it', good caring friends who try to help (usually codependent types!), no real trauma in their background...they choose to be wretched and mean. Frequently they were indulged and spoiled as children, were bullies as teenagers, and as adults feel entitled and embittered because the world does not automatically bow down to their superiority. They will seek out those they perceive as weak and damage them for amusement, encouraging others to 'join the fun.' They break their toys when they're done with them, so no one else can use them. They are jealous of other people's successes, and spitefully attack them.

The type of personality that is codependent and 'needs to be needed' usually wants to be seen as a 'good person' and goes to great lengths to be a martyr. There is another personality type that just wants to pull the wings off butterflies.

  84. OMGoodness..it's like some bad soap opera...how on earth can one person have this much drama, drama, drama????

  89. Speaking of bullying
    FYI
"More than a million people are set to don purple on October 20. They will be wearing the color as a show of support for gay teens.

The outpouring of support for GLBTQ youth comes in the wake of the deaths of six teenagers who were the subject of bullying and harassment due to their sexual orientations or perceived sexual orientations.

USA Today says that a Facebook page dedicated to the victims shows that 1.4 million people have said that they will be wearing purple on October 20.

The day, which is known as Spirit Day, was first created by teenager Brittany McMillan earlier this month. The idea behind it is similar to that of "Spirit Week." The purpose is simply that everyone rallies together.

Spirit Day is meant both to honor the deceased teenagers and to show support to the living. It's "a way to show the hundreds of thousands of LGBT youth who face the same pressures and bullying, that there is a vast community of people who support them."

Why was purple chosen? The color represents "spirit" on the rainbow flag.

Will you be wearing purple on October 20?"

  93. Anonymous 12:08 Am said "Sound like anyone you know?"

    BINGO. Brilliant.

This is Cathy Atkinson to a T.

Her father left her mother when she was 11 or 12, and she never heard from him again until they were notified he had committed suicide. She is wildly attracted to men who are screwed up and she begins immediately to "fix" or "improve" him. Normal men who are attracted to her are boring and unattractive to her. ie: her Husband who is a nice person with a normal job and loved her enough to marry her. He was too boring to stay with and she continued her 14 yr long affair with the Attorney polo player, and when that ended she she took off to CA.

She has ridiculously elderly cats with huge medical needs, house ferals, and other non adoptables.
She had that blind CBER mare Sunline that she should have put down several years earlier than she did but could not bring herself to do it admitting that "She is a metaphor for me, and how the men I have loved have tossed me aside, I cannot toss her away like everyone else in her life has."

Kestrel, she WAS indulged spoiled and coddled by her mother as an only child and YES she feels great superiority over the bulk of humanity. You too are SPOT ON!

I personally feel she is a sociopath. This website lays it out. Click it and see if you don't see what I see....

  96. Wild speculation ahead (remember, just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true)

Fugs exhibits a classic case of what I have mentally categorized as "rescuer syndrome." It's a mix of control freak tendencies and lack of empathy for humans and a deep seated need to fix problems outside the control of the rescuer. I did animal rescue for many years and saw this kind of thing. In my own head I think of it as a mild (or controlled) case of hoarding.

Everything someone with rescuer syndrome does is focused on saving JUST ONE MORE. The rush from saving a life is like a drug and affected people stop taking care of their own needs. Sure, they'll go to work (to pay the bills so they can feed their rescues) and make friends (who will be able to help them feed their rescues) and adopt out animals (if only to make room for more rescues). Generally they're quite nice, if a bit obsessive, as long as you agree with them and support their rescuing.

Cross them, in any way and they will destroy you. It doesn't matter if the infraction is something the offender sees as minor. A single negative statement, like "is this a good idea?" can result in punishment from the rescuer. The punishments may be simple, the offender refusing to speak to the offender for example. In some cases, though, the offender is stalked or harassed, either online.

I've seen it happen over and over again, with a wide spectrum of animals involved. It's not "cat rescuers" or "horse rescuers" or "bunny rescuers."

It's one of the reasons I am very loathe to get involved with rescue again. These people are just Too Much Work to deal with. And that's another symptom, they end up taking over rescues and dominating even large non-profits because their need for their drug (rescuing) overwhelms people who just want to do something good.

    #1 Horse Rescuers
    #2 Dressage Queens
#3 "Natural Horsemanship" Newbies to the horse world
    #4 Breed Show specialty breeders

Do you have any proof, a back story, a witness (to Cathy's pregnancy) and adoption?

I doubt the pregnancy, Cathy doesn't seem the type to have an unwanted child. I do think from what she has written she's ok with abortion.

Another odd position for a Regan Republican to hold.

IF (and that is a big if) none of this reflects on the baby. Being raped doesn't reflect badly on Cathy, and neither does choosing (IF that is what happened) to have the child and adopting him out.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Congrats on the article GL. I hope it helps.

    ReplyDelete
  104. If that horrible thing actually happened to her, and she did the right thing and had the baby and adopted it out to a family, I respect her for that.

    ReplyDelete
  105. YHI here, Ive seen the stretch marks on her stomach. I believe she had a child. I have no proof of the rape, but you don't get those kinds of stretch marks unless she weighed 350# at one point or had a child.
I have no problem with her adopting the kid out, no matter the mean of conception.

    ReplyDelete
  106. GL, is this the situation you're involved in???????? OMG. I am so beyond disturbed by this :( :(

As for Cathy having or not having a kid....that is an area I'm not going to offer an opinion on given the circumstances said anon on here. I can't hold that against anybody....

She is still a shitty human being for many other reasons though....

  107. Being raped doesn't make you a sinner or a saint. It makes you a rape victim.

You can still be a mean, nasty person, you can be an compassionate, giving one. A rape may effect the path you take, it doesn't dictate where you end up.

  108. OT, but Cathy had a video about "dancing" horses up today. I know nothing about Charro or western dancing horses. But the buckskin/dun that was shown "Dancing" had to be one of the prettiest horses I've ever seen. Not condoning or condemning the training, I know nothing about it.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yup, there were some nice horses in that video. Very questionable training methods on most of them, but I'm sure not everybody takes the shortcut. I think GL's article is far more upsetting....

  110. I gave birth four times, smallest kid was 7 1/2 pounds, biggest was 12 pounds. I did it "naturally". Never got a stretch mark on MY tummy. Broke my ankle once. Puffed up like a melon. I have stretch marks on it.

OT but shows how weird kids can think. I grew up hearing about reincarnation and was unclear on concept. I kept wondering if Jesus was reincarnated would he have broken bones in the new body or would that only apply to the old body? How could he play baseball or kickball without risking a broken bone? (You see I thought Jesus would have to avoid breaking his bones not that they just wouldn't break.)

  111. GL...well written article and kudos for you for being very professional and NOT posting the address, phone number, name etc. I believe the professional manner in which you are handling this will prompt a more in depth investigation into situation. Question: as this is your neighbor, could you take her to court for somehow endangering your horses? For example, is she is not feeding and watering this horse she is so not deworming and vaccinating him. That could breed parasites and foster the situation in which air born pathogens and blood carried diseases could be transmitted by flies, misquotes, etc to your horses. Could you make a case for the mounting manure is causing flies to be bred? See where I am going with this? If you take her to court and win, a judge in a non-jury setting could order the horse be removed and placed in a boarding facility or custodial care pending an investigation by a court appointed animal advocate.....its just a thought....

  112. So today we are bashing a woman named Norma. I totally agree that as the horse is a yearling it has NO business being ridden...however, no where in the ad does it say that anyone has been on the horse. it states broke to the saddle....and though there is some debate over if this is even too much weight for the yearling to carry, i disagree with the attack on Norma completely. Take a look at the youth EMM training for this year. Here's another case of "i disagree with you so I'm going to attack you on my blog where I can ecourage my sheep to hound and harass you." guess who is getting a call from lady eve tonight?? yep!! Norma needs a heads up!

Question for Fugs: do you x-ray your colt's knees prior to starting them under saddle with weight (rider)? I doubt that because it costs money to do this.

OMG this woman is making me angrier and angrier.....

  115. GL,

something has to be done for this horse . I know of the Shickendanz family and there has been some rather bad press about one of them lately. I believe it was Bruno Shickendanz that brought an old former stakes winning stallion out of retirment and basically the horse snapped his leg off training int he morning preparing for his big come back. The horse had been retired several years before and was 10yrs or older... Not exactly a stellar reference.

However, the TB industry is filled with very wealthy and powerful people. Your story and pictures need to get in the proper hands and maybe somebody can put some real pressure on the right people and get this poor guy out of this mess. For starters, I would take this to the Ontario Jockey Club and Woodbine if the horse raced there. There is a commitment from some of the bigger tracks to rescuing these old warriors. Do it just like you have been.....be calm, be professional and be factual. Hysteria will only get you written off as a nut like Cathy and her followers.

I believe there is a way to help this poor guy. Please keep us updated on here and I'll do whatever I can as far as providing contacts that may help....I wonder if Old Friends NY would help? That may be a longshot...

  116. GL-Wonderful to see all of the effort and heartache you have taken on written into a comprehensive article. You have worked so hard to bring poor Chief's plight to light and put up with a lot of guff from people who thought you were the one who was 'crazy'. Kudos to you my friend for standing up for what you believe is the right thing and yet keeping your integrity.

BTW-I haven't received my invite to your blog yet. Don't forget me. :-)

  117. GL. I'm so glad you went public with this and finally found someone to listen! I still say that the OSPCA is derelict in their interpretation of the law. Chief is NOT being given adequate food, water, or shelter.

I emailed the woman with the filly. The filly is pretty, well fed and has training started. I don't think getting a yearling used to a saddle is going to create much of a problem. Sheesh.

  118. Kestral, YHI and lauraatkins: good comments, all. Kestral makes a good point that she has quite the bully in her, as well as a superiority complex, yet she still shows co-dependency attributes at the same time. And I enjoyed reading lauratkins' comments about the chronic rescuer, which seems to be like a sub-category of co-dependency. I liked her observations of the chronic rescuer type. Always wanting to rescue just one more, and ending up not being able to take proper care of any of them as a result. Then always being on the "receiving end" and grabbing any money or other assistance offered with both hands. Always needing a special or free rent situation and free or reduced price services of others. I also have wondered if she might be a sociopath, as YHI said. I know they don't relate to the pain of others and tend to also be parasitic personalities. I looked up the link YHI posted on socipathic behavior - very interesting. We've all known people who match some of those symptoms, and it's good to be familiar with them because we all usually come across several of these types of people in our lifetimes. I wished I'd been more aware as a younger person growing up. I would have recognized some real losers much sooner. The fact that they are charismatic usually catches a lot of people off guard who trust them.

And lauraatkins: I never realized until you mentioned it that each rescue is like a drug. Now I see it: they don't neglect themselves so much as an altruistic need to help, but more like any alcoholic or drug addict neglects their own needs to buy more of whatever their substance is. I noticed that they seem to get so excited by the prospect of a new rescue that they seems to lose enthusiasm and affection for their other animals, giving them less attention as they focus on the newest member of their collection. Makes a lot of sense now that you explained it so well.

As for Fugs' purported views on abortion, she does seem to have some empathy for the pain and trauma an aborted baby experiences, almost like she actually researched it. So I give her credit for going through with the birth, assuming it's true and I have no reason not to believe it. Unlikely to have such stretch marks unless extreme sudden weight gain other than pregnancy. Funny how some people get hardly any stretchmarks and others get huge horrible wide bands of stretchmarks from just one pregnancy. As for rape, I do feel bad if that actually happened. But we have to remember who we're talking about here. Was it an excuse not to keep what she didn't want anyway? Or was it that a "crime victim" can get some of the expenses paid in some states? I hate to be so cynical. It was a brave thing to go through with it, in any event. I just don't necessarily believe her account of what actually happened.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I don't actually believe she had a kid......stretch marks just aren't enough evidence for me. It has been widely posted that she used to be hugely fat and crash dieted to get down to where she was. The more recent pics I have seen of her suggest she's on the heavy side again...

The track really isn't at fault here. No-one is at fault here, except for The Neighbour, and the OSPCA for sweeping the horse under the rug..

BEC, I sent ya one! I'll send it again.

    ReplyDelete
  121. GL,

I realize the track isn't at fault, but should Chief's story hit mainstream media, it may compel people that are in a position to put pressure on the OSPCA to do something. Realize that the Humane Society and groups like that are always dogging the racing industry and watching everything they do. So, now is their chance to step up and do something and save a horse that really is in trouble. They can't have it both ways....most horses at the track are treated and pampered like royalty. Its once they are done running that crap like this happens to them.

I also love how you wrote your article. Have you sent it in to local papers and tv stations? I'm not trying to add more stress on you, I just wish I could help...

  123. No, he wasn't they type of racehorse most people will remember. He had one good stakes score, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to live as normal. I wonder how she plans on breeding him considering she doesn't have a facility.

My problem is there isn't a lot of TB dedicated rescue groups in Canada. If he was in the US, there are any number of them that would get that horse out one way or another. That's why I suggested Old Friends NY as they are probably one of the better connected and industry supported ones.

Maybe this horse needs a facebook page or something. He does need the right kind of public attention. I believe that he can be helped without stooping to Cathy's bully/hysteria tactics...

    ReplyDelete
  124. LOLASL, YHI here, I believe Cathy had a child. She is 5'3" so a very petite person. She was never grossly over weight, at the highest she wore a size 10-12 so I would guess about 175 tops. She was a 2-4 when I knew her. The stretch marks I saw were quite distinctly child bearing stretch marks.
Who knows if the rape accusations were real? Supposedly she fired a barn helper and he came back to gather his things, they got into some sort of argument and it ended up with her assaulted and raped. She was a young adult at the time. Her mother was still alive, so its quite possible the rape story was a married man pregnancy cover up for mommas sake? Who knows? It could just as easily be true.

I also wonder if her attraction to married men is in part her attempt to break up their marriages like her parents were broken up. You know, one of those things where the abused abuse others in the same way they were abused?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Well, I don't like to speculate on such matters because all too frequently wild speculation gets accepted as fact. I also don't believe a bad past is a reason to screw up a perfectly good future, or an excuse to behave badly in the present.

We all all accountable for our actions, especially toward those creatures that need protection. they don't care what our motivations are.

To tell the truth I've trained many horses that I didn't particularly care for. Staying consistent, firm and kind turned them into good horses...and their owners who loved and spoiled them had created monsters! How many abusers claim to love their victims?!

  126. I'm off to teach a very special therapy lesson today. Missi and our special little non-verbal (though she is starting to speak), partially blind rider, Danielle will meet for the first time. Danielle knows nothing about Missi but she described her to her mother using a book and sign language earlier this week. She pointed to a palomino in a book and said that is her horse. She signed it is a girl and that her one eye is small. As you know this the palomino mare I mentioned earlier this week. She is blind in her left eye & the eye is atrophying making it shrink. When asked how she knew this was her horse, our little special cowgirl pointed to her heart and signed "I see her in my heart". I don't think I'm going to make it through this lesson with out tearing up. Her mother cried on the phone yesterday after she told me the story of Missi and my only response to her were a few pic texts of Missi. In the world of horses that can be so ugly and unkind, I thought I would share this with you all. I'll let you know this evening how things went. Happy Friday to you all!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. That's just so cool LEG! That's just making me tear up! Strange how some horse people can be so unkind, when horses can work that kind of magic. Horse therapy works so well that it's almost scary. Such a large prey animal taking care of the ones who need it just leaves me in awe.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ok...didn't make it through the lesson without tears & the family is ecstatic. Danielle was literally in shock. This 15.3hh tall horse was putting her head on the ground for Danielle & putting her brow on Danielle's chest. Our little non-verbal child was speaking in complete sentences. Clear as a bell: "I love Missi". "This is my heart horse." "How did you know?" "Is she mine?" To answer the latter, yes....At the end of the lesson, Mom asked us if we would be willing to sell Missi to them. There was never a doubt in our minds that Missi would only be ours for about a week. And after 20 minutes of hugs, our special girl said "missi is" and signed the word Angel. And Mom cried when she then pointed at me and said "You too." Happy, happy Friday, friends!!! :)

  130. Angel horse..., yup, and you arean angel too LEG! And to top it off Missi's former family know that she will be loved, and that the world can be a good place.

  131. I'm a little confused.

    1. So Fugs was using her VLC as a stud? Did she actually breed him? Because if so, that's the HEIGHT of hypocrisy.

    2. I'm a newbie but how the hell can you use a big, fat QH in polo? I thought polo ponies were small (15 hands and under) and slim (800-900 pounds). I didn't know lumbering over-size QHs could be used in that sport.

    3. Finally, when I worked for my college newspaper in the 1990s, I did a story on the UNR equestrian team. They were such a sad bunch of kids. No money for horses, most couldn't afford to lease. They had two horses being shared between 6 team members. They didn't have money for events, half the time couldn't afford a trailer rental to haul the two horses they had to an event. Why pick on college/university equestrian teams or agriculture research animals?!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Oh Evie, I have never posted before, but holy cow what a great story to start the weekend!! How awesome!!

    ReplyDelete
  133. LEG, that's sure a nice story to hear....it always chokes me up....we can all learn from their ability to accept, forgive and be kind.

However, I'm going to put all that aside and bitch about Cathy for a bit...

I do not believe that horse has a DDFT injury. Her trainer and Cathy both say that Cathy slept outside his stall at the world show and basically never left his side. Cathy is now claiming that the horse stretched his leg out in his sleep and managed to kick that wall hard enough to have a career ending injurty without waking her. I guess its possible if she was showing appreciation to her trainer's hubby in the back of the trailer at the time...more likely is the horse is a cripple, always has been one and forever will be one. Not looking too good for his polo career....I think he's probably still stifle sore and she's latched onto the DDFT injury as its generally a career ender and it gives her an excuse to quit on him and say his career ended due to this horrible freak accident, rather than admit he didn't have what it took to succeed....Cathy is nothing if not transparent...

So we go from heart warming to infuriating while hilarious........we had an assessment session today: 28 yr old man, never had a lesson or owned a horse bought a 7 yr old qh that had not been ridden in 2 yrs.........sweet lord above it's a train wreck....I put him on a lesson horse and the guy's hands were at his ears and he gripped her in his knees so tight she threw her head and bolted....OMG....how on earth can someone in good faith have sold this man a horse??? UGH......funny thing was he realized that he was really out of his league and goes "god i'm an idiot. how come you are not laughing in my face." he starts lessons this week and his horse is now in a refresher course, moves in monday....

all in all...it's been a great day

  138. Haven't posted in a while but have been reading. I just have to comment on that poor horse, Chief, who is locked in that disgusting garage eating that putrid hay and wish I could drive up there and steal him...to hell with the law. I'd gladly rot in jail myself for stealing him if it meant that I helped get that poor horse out of that cesspool. One of the worst parts about reading these types of stories is the feeling of helplessness, especially when the authorities turn a blind eye and allow the abuse/neglect to continue.

As to Cathy having a baby and giving him up for adoption, in view of the mental state of Cathy herself, his being adopted out was a blessing. I hope he got well adjusted, happy parents. Of course, my comment is based on the supposition that this tragic event (being raped and impregnated) is true. I feel for anyone who had to endure a nightmare like that, even Cathy.

Loved the story about Missi. I adore special needs children and would love to work with them but, alas, I'm way too old to start preparing for a new career working with handicapped children. I was especially touched by the child's ability to see the horse "in her heart" and aptly describe the horse even before seeing her. I think the child has special psychic abilities. I will be looking forward to updates on this pair's (horse and child) adventures.

  142. Even when a person doesn't file a tax return, most employers still file a 1099 form. So IRS still knows where that person worked and how much they got paid. It's often then only a matter of time before IRS or the state taxing authority then contacts the employee at that place of employment and/or sends a notice of levy to that employer and instructs the employer to start withholding a percentage of the employee's wages. Could that be the reason for our little friend's frequent job changes?

    ReplyDelete
  143. How is Fugs going to ride a pony in Oregon if she lives in Califoria?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Lucerne: There is always room for someone to help out or even create a program. It doesn't even have to do with horses. We have taken our sheep, goats, pot bellies, llamas, etc into the inner city to allow underprivileged kids a chance to experience farm animals up close. We have taken our horses into the nursing homes for carriage rides and hands on touch therapy. WANTING to make a difference it all it really takes and having the drive to do it. Not giving up and not getting discouraged is the biggest challenges we found thus far.

No riding today......storms and we had choreographing for drill team. Its interesting though how the horses touch different people very similarly....one of our boys on team is fussing with his parents because they are tired of getting up early saturdays and bringing him. They claim he's tired of missing sleep overs and saturday morning cartoons with friends. He stood up to them today and said, "quit taking my passion away. I love horses and drill team is my sport. I'll play baseball and football but don't me choose".......

    Another great day!

  146. I don't understand how a person who is afraid to trail ride, rides only in an arena, and apparently cannot ride well enough to even show her own horse in a walk/trot class can have established herself as enough of a horse "expert" to the extent of writing for Horse Illustrated. I will say that she is an entertaining writer, so looks as if she has probably gotten by largely on style over actual skill.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I've never read Cathy's articles in HI and I don't intend to. I won't even pick the magazine up and read it for free as long as she's associated with it. I don't think her writing a column and not even every other month is a big paying job anyhow. I can't even imagine what she would have to write about other than her fictional life with horses. Wasn't it originally supposed to be about her journey making VLC as a sire or something?

I see she has acquired yet another rescue horse that she will never actually lay eyes on or physically handle. She's registering it as a `pinto'. She sure is into the color registries all of a sudden.....hypocrite much?

I want to know where all her other rescues, that she didn't have put down upon her rapid exit from WA state earlier in the year, are...

    For instance, where is...
One Sly Private Eye (Sly) Paint mare she was going to turn into her cow pony.....last seen on her former roommates website being bred to their unaccomplished fugly colored stallions...

Exclusive Report - TB mare that she rescued....last seen on her `trainer's' sale list but no longer spoken about....

Thai - TB mare that had previously had a foal by Champagne Til Dawn...vanished into thin air

Frankie - The big gold yearling that would now be a 3yr old. Was being boarded out at Karen V's along with Lucy. Last reported to have gone for `training'.

Hercules - He is not listed on SCR's website nor is his facebook page ever updated.

Where are all these rescue horses going and how does she afford all of this? Let's not forget she acknowledges having BYC in training and boarded out all year, she has that old TB mare in Tennessee at Paradigm Retirement (beautiful farm, wonderful care, VERY expensive) and now she has this OSU mare she is already barn blind over (No, Cathy she doesn't look like she is a registered anything....she's a cute colored grade mare with not very good conformation and apparently no ovaries..).

Maybe Cathy was able to figure out what CBER was pulling because she was up to the same tricks herself but on a smaller scale and she got jealous they were making more money at it???

    ReplyDelete
  150. I have to wonder how ANY magazine associated with horses could possibly have fugly as an "expert" on anything related to horses unless its how to be an irresponsible horse owner. Anon 9:16 pointed out that she admits to being frightened to take her horse out of an arena yet she's going to ride polo.....since when did polo become an indoor sport???? Everything she says and does is a contradiction. Remember she has been posting about poor conformation, over breeding, & non-quality registered horses, yet then she turns around and posts how the pinto association is now accepting everything except appys, mules, donkeys, drafts, and some ponies.....I guess that was a preface to her trying to make VLC/G a pinto. So here is another contradiction in flesh...he sucks as a qh and can't hack it in the WP stock rings so we are going to make him a pinto and try it there. It's frustrating to watch and shameful that many novice and young horse owners may be deferring to her as and expert. It's pathetic!

    ReplyDelete

I was thinking that exact same thing. She is showing all of the signs of being a hoarder posing as a rescue, except that she doesn't physically have all her animals in her own care...

  153. Hypocrites just annoy the heck out of me, and fubb bashed 'krazy kolor' registries and breeders for ages, and now it's all okay because it's her doing it?! The meanness is appalling though. Maybe if she actually rode and spent time with horses it would be good for her.

    ReplyDelete
  154. if you read that post again, you'll see that she gives reference to and thanks two rescues, a Mustang rescue in Oregon who is quarantining this pinto mare, and a private ranch-rescue, Falcon Ridge, in north San Diego County. My guess is that she'll head down there after Oregon. That would be less than a two-hour drive from Los Angeles. The only thing is, this SD ranch allows volunteers in only three days a week, and they are not allowed to ride. There is a resident trainer who is the head of the program, and I can't see him letting Fugly get around with bending the rules.

  156. GL good luck and we shall miss you!!

Im not worried about Nicki at Falcon letting Cathy get over on her and Cathy was going to ride Herc too and we see how that turned out.

In Cathy's world she is the Horsie queen *snort* Cathy is a tad off in the head. Im surprised she doesnt have a unicorn collection.

  157. Crap ya all had to make me go look.... Face palm!!! Who are the idiots that post over there now? Blech blech blech ....Name your fricking unicorns Glitter or Rainbow LOLOLOL! I think Ill ask Nicki why Cathy is taking credit for this in the first place!

  158. I got a cringe or two when I was reading the name suggestions on that poor mare too. Cathy is going to make a show horse out of her apparently. I guess since our experiment with trying to make an AQHA stallion on the cheap by showing in color shows and Arabian assoc. schooling shows tanked, Cathy is now going to show the world how you make a world champion wp horse out of a mare with a straight shoulder, upside down neck and no ass end. I'm sure she's a perfectly sweet and cute mare, but she is not a potential show horse whether you slap color papers on her or not. Let her go be a pet and be happy. Why does Cathy think everything is a potential show pony?

Can nobody account for all her other rescues? Awhile back i tried to ask her on her blog, but she refused to answer other than Sly is still her horse and won't have another baby. I'm betting Sly is still popping out foals and wouldn't be surprised if Cathy hasn't bred a couple of rescue mares to BYC before the de-balling ceremony. What is the hold up on that anyhow?

GL, I'm going to send an application to your blog. I hope things are ok....

  161. From the karenv blog

    Foxy Update -

Shy Miss Foxy is all settled in. She has taken to bossing Texas Chili around, though gently. He dotes on her. They remind me of an old married couple! She has also decided that she is comfortable enough to come into the stall in the back of the barn, nicker for her breakfast or dinner, and take a dump if I'm slow delivering the grub. She's put on a little weight, but her teeth are so bad that she can't really gain as much as I'd like, as quickly as I'd like. Another "road block" is that my normal "weight gain program" for horses includes food she can't have.

Taking great care of your rescues Cathy? NOT!!!! How long before this one gets a float?? You have had her what? 3-4 mo?? Oh yeah you dont have her, you have only seen her once. The fubby way to rescue... online on your ass.

  162. Wondering if what happened between Fugs and her trainer is that Fugs still owes her money and has not paid the bill as fast as maybe it was expected.

Also could someone have showed the trainer to this blog and made her think she has been mooched?

Either way, it would then look bad for Fugs to suddenly have the $$$ for stem cell therapy but not to pay the trainer first, especially if the bill included the Okla. trip.

Maybe Fugs had to suddenly start paying rent somewhere?

    ReplyDelete
  163. I saw pics of that Foxy mare. She is now thinner than when Cathy `rescued' her. Why is that?

I have no clue what happened between Cathy and her trainer, but maybe she got sick of getting raked over the coals and picked apart (justly, I might add) for her riding skill due to her association with Cathy. OR, maybe because she's actually running a business, she's not into making deals or trades in exchange for her work. I know her husband was the one that hauled BYC to Oklahoma and that it was a last minute sort of thing when the other ride backed out. So, somehow Cathy paid for all that, plus paid to fly her and her trainer out to the show. Cathy says she slept outside his stall because she was worried somebody would do something to him....maybe it was because she maxed the plastic and couldn't afford a hotel for herself? At any rate it did her no good as the horse, according to her, suffered a career ending injury in his stall while he was sleeping and she didn't even wake up. Wouldn't you think if that horse kicked a wall hard enough to end his career, you might have heard it????Again, I'm calling Bullshit on the injury. I think she can't afford to keep him in training, had a moment of clarity and realized he was never going to earn even one AQHA point, and is trying to save face.....

He's not getting stem cell because he doesn't need it. She won't inject his joints because she says she doesn't believe in it and its bad. I've injected joints before and done right and for the right reasons, it can put a horse on the road to comfort and recovery. She should probably educate herself a bit before spouting off and discouraging green horse people from taking advice from vets...

  164. Is it true that Cathy says people who sell or adopt out a horse should have a clause in the contract that allows them to take back the horse if the new owner does not care for it properly, just as if it were a dog or cat adoption? And that people should be responsible for the horses they breed for the remainder of the horses' lives? I wonder if the adoption contract she must have signed when she gave her baby up for adoption contained any such clauses? (If that is indeed what really happenend. It seems to be true, judging from the posts on this website from people who claim to know her and to have heard her explain the circumstances of what occurred surrounding her purported pregnancy.)

If it's true that she failed to pay off her student loan, bounced checks, defaulted on credit cards, had her repossessed, did not report or pay taxes for many years, has several stables boarding her various horses for what what must be unusually low fees, and often gets people to let her stay in their homes for free for extended periods of time, then I wonder what her life would have been like if she actually had someone else to support besides herself?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Ok, guys, not so comfortable here with the talk of the supposed rape, and subsequent pregnancy/adoption.If she was assaulted ,how terrible! There is NO ONE who deserves that.If she was pregnant and gave birth then gave said child up for adoption ,I aplaud her at least emporary good sense, she has always stated that bewing a parent was no t in her plans of wants , and I would far rather see the child adopted and cared for by parents who want a child ,than drug through life by someone ,who does not want to be a parent but is to selfish to give the child a chance elswhere. That all said. This is about her blog and horses is it not? and the somewhat cavalier attitude towards a possible victim of a terrible crime kinda takes us to her level or beyond

    ReplyDelete
  166. Anon @4:21: You're right in some ways. And decisions made early in life do not always reflect how we would have acted later. Also, if rape occurred, of course that's tragic (and I'm not the one who brought it up here, or the alleged pregnancy). But part of this blog does go to issues of her credibility and how she treats people, not just animals, especially in light of her callous attitude toward some of the havoc she has caused in the lives of some people who did not deserve it. This blog has also always addressed her hypocrasy in regard to certain issues, especially her calling people out on what she sees as a lack of personal responsibility. If she sees herself now as a celebrity, that makes her a public figure, right? And some would argue that, while giving up a child for adoption was the responsible thing to do, why call other people out for not thinking they should take responsibility for a horse for the rest of its life once they have sold it? It's an animal, after all. Precious, yes. Helpless, yes. But still not one's own human baby. And maybe other people who have to give up their animals also have a strong sense of responsibility to whom they owe money and want to actually be able to honor their commitments.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I have mostly chosen not to comment on Cathy's alleged child or the circumstances surrounding it. I hope the child is healthy and happy and loved if it even exists. I will say its too bad Cathy doesn't show the same restraint. How many times have we seen her drill into people's personal lives and post their most private and unrelated all over the internet? Leland comes to mind.....I agree that just because she is a bottom feeder with no scruples, we probably shouldn't join her down there and wallow.....

I do know that karma is very real and it really will bite her square in the ass one day. She has caused the death of far more horses than she has saved. Because of her bully tactics and moronic group of harpies she sicks on people, more than one feedlot refuses to allow rescues in to even look at animals, whereas before horses on that lot at least had a chance at rescue.......

It was me that posted my concerns about the discussion around the assault /pregnancy.Too lazy to log in .I just am not too comfortable in that discussion .There is plenty of "the pot calling the kettle black " in her business with horses ,I just think thet type of personal conjecture is a slippery slope , and while I doubt she would shy away from that type of discussion ,there are just some lines no one needs to cross.JMHO

  171. I have to hand it to Fugs, though ... she has her moments. Like when she called out several people who were running ads for their various 30+ year old horses for a paltry sum of money, horses that obviously were loveable and had served their owners well, for a sum so small as to almost guarantee a kill buyer. After telling them to take a crow bar to their wallets and have their horses humanely euthanized, she told them that she hoped they spent their retirements in a refrigerator box in an alley until they froze to death. That is classic Fugs ... and as much as I loathe her sometimes, who else has such a wonderful way with words at times like that? It was like the time that George W (and I'm no Republican), in his State of the Union address following 9/11, spoke about "histories unmarked graves of forgotten lies," except that Fugs wrote the words in her blog by herself, with no speech writer. This woman is so talented, she could have "been a contender" if she didn't have so many personal issues. If she did have a baby, I bet he or she is one talented child.

    ReplyDelete
  172. One more thing ... for those of you who might be wondering, I am Anon at 12:14, and no, I am not Fugs herself. In fact, I wish she would get some therapy, because she owes it to herself; a brain like hers should not be wasted being so hateful and hypocritical. She has apparently been through a lot in life and should spend some time and money on herself. Then she could do more good in the world. This is a talented and smart woman, make no mistake about it. But ignorance and stubborness, as well as unresolved emotional issues, can negate brilliance to a great degree.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I meant to say, "History's" unmarked grave of discarded lies. Maybe I should just stay off my computer when it's this late!

    ReplyDelete
  174. Being 'talented and smart' and having a way with words is common in con artists. That's how they get perfectly normal people to do things that normally wouldn't.

Fugs is not not talented and smart, she is cagey and conniving...kind of like a coyote. All you have to do to figure that out is look at the trail of people she has left behind. Mostly good people who bought into her 'way with words' and allowed her to use them til they couldn't take it anymore. Then she discards them like yesterday's trash and moves on to her next victim.

I'm pretty sure I have heard Hitler described as talented, brilliant and a little messed up in the head as well.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Forgive me if I dcn't share the opinion that she is brilliant or all that talented. She can string some profanities together, but that's about it. Talented and smart people tend to not mooch off others or subscribe to mob mentality. I'm with BEC, she's more conniving than she is smart and let's leave it at that...

    lolasl

    ReplyDelete
  176. @BrownEyed Cowgirls ... sounds like you know her history a lot better than I do (and you're a good writer yourself). It's true about con artists usually being charming, hence the term "snake oil salesmen." And come to think of it, one of the men I dated who had an unusual "gift of gab" did turn out to be quite a weasel. Your comparison to Hitler reminds me that with that kind of personality, you have to watch them carefully in the beginning before they manage to build a power base.

  177. Hey Fugs IS Smart.
She DOES have a way with words.
Heck she has a Bachelors Degree in English she better be good with words...
Intelligence and glibness IN NO WAY make up for her complete lack of empathy for humans and her utter lack of conscience for her actions.
She victimizes people and saves horsies and kitties.
THAT DOES NOT MAKE HER ADMIRABLE.
It makes her a sick sad human being.
She is emotionally isolated and parasitic with a HUGE ego.
She is no saint, she is a sick damaged person. The trouble is she thinks she is a goddess.

    ReplyDelete
  178. 'Calling people out' without knowing their circumstances is just more meanness. A friend of mine just picked up an old 30 something mare for her grandkids. The mare's owner is dying of cancer. My friend is happy with the old darling mare and is prepared to take care of her forever, previous owner can die in peace. Should I be buying the previous owner a freakin' refrigerator box then??!!!

  179. Forgive me but I think a smart person wouldn't be coach surfing instead of having their own home. A `smart' person would think of a better way than bullying and harrassment to effect change on a subject they are passionate about. I would venture a guess that Cathy isn't all that passionate about anything other than herself. Rescue is just an angle and she has little interest in any of the horses she rescues beyond the attention they get her. Once the horse is out of the limelight, Cathy loses interest and dumps it off on somebody else rather quickly. She could have a Masters degree in rocket science and that doesn't make her anything other than book smart. Her degree does not make her intelligent, it just makes her `rainman' at best....

  182. I think more than anything, the sheer volume of cats she keeps speaks volumes. She's the typical old bitter crazy cat lady.....

Look at this website with her showing off her cats. Can you even imagine what that home smells like? She doesn't get off the computer long enough to do litter box patrol!

  185. Did I miss something? How did Fubbs go from having "no room at the inn" to having a pony from the OSU auction??

    ReplyDelete
  186. Good lord, I have six cats (BYB, I just inherited two when my mom died, I never intended to have six of them)and I worry that I'm on the verge of becoming a crazy cat person.
Anyone else wonder how she can afford all the cats, let alone the horses? Take a rough guess that each cat will cost approximately $300.00 a year(food, litter, vet)I think she has six cats too (some of the photos appear to be the same car) (300.00 X 6 = 1,800.00) lets round up to 2,000.00. I think she has 4 horses (4x500.00=2,000 a month) I'm taking a high average for board, since the horses don't live with her, she isn't cleaning stall of off set their board) 2,000x13 = $26,000.00 outlay for animals if nothing goes wrong or she doesn't show.
I want her job. in order to afford that kind of outlay and remain financially sound she needs a job that brings in $120,000.00 gross. take away 1/3 for taxes (like us normal folk pay) is $80,000.00. rent should be 1/4 or less of that amount that is about $20,000.00 a year of $2000.00 a month. So that would leave her with $60,000.00 to spend as she wishes if we leave out car, insurance, and food.

Can we just drop the subject of Cathy's alleged baby? As a mother who has one adopted kid, the mother of that kid is ME. How that baby turns out doesn't depend on Cathy and her genes. It depends on the parents of the kid, the ones who are raising and loving it.
Can you imagine how awful it would be to be that kid and know you birth mother has said in print, over and over, she isn't mom material and doesn't like kids? Way to feel really wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I made a count of the horses Cathy allegedly supports above...Unless she is a complete liar and assumes nobody else can keep count, she should have about 5 or 6 she claims to support. However, one of those is the old mare in TN at that retirement farm and her board is in the neighborhoor of $385/month. Until last year, she had two mares there, but one died. Then she had BYC in training and her trainer advertises something like $685/month to keep one in training. Karen V's blog mentioned Cathy has sent Frankie (the fugly palomino she got with BYC) off to training recently as well. So she's up over $2000/month on horses alone if nothing goes wrong.....something is beginning to stink very badly here.....or people are not getting paid. Maybe that had more to due with the end of BYC's show career than the mystery lameness...

  189. I heard that paralegals down in California make at least $1000 a week. I'm thinking that combined with maybe a couple thousand or so from the blog and a few hundred from HI that she's bringing in about $6500 on a good month.

    ReplyDelete
  190. No room at the inn, to 'just one more' is hoarder speak for "I need my fix." Of course when you have a donation site in place...it goes right back to the origin of this blog.

Champ, the 'oh woopsie he's a stallion' horse 'rescued' (BS. Bought.) from the auction, who was already wearing expensive orthopedic shoes, was the poster child of the day. Money was asked for, and sent, to fugly, personally, to cover medical expenses, because fugly did not have the money to take care of him. Champ's list of expenses included training fees. (Huh?! Just what the heck can you train a profoundly navicular horse to do?!!!) After a month he was euthanized. When asked for any receipt to his care...all hell broke loose. Fugly was totally indignant that anyone might question her righteous behavior. Then fugly got busted saying vicious things about her readers...who did not take that lying down!!!

And then there's the woman that fugly attacked, who just wouldn't give up, turned out to be a caring, funny person and an inspiration to me.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Did that really happy with Champ's donations??? Wow. Even I didn't realize that. I was aware that his `rescue' was right around the time Cathy got busted for sleepign with YHI's hubby and that she was banned from the farm he was at. I wonder if her readers know she probably was nowhere around when he was put to sleep. Where did she slag off her readers? I would love to read that!

    ReplyDelete
  192. Don't forget that when sheee-ite hit the fan over where the $$ went for Champ, that fugs suddenly distanced herself from the actual ownership and said that SHE wasn't the one who 'rescued' Champ. It was someone else. That is why she said she was not responsible for providing accurate documentation of how the money was spent.

If I remember correctly (hard to when the facts get spun like they did), I think YHI gave them a place to board Champ for feed cost only?

    ReplyDelete
  193. Oh and has anyone else noticed there are no more Shiloh Rescue video's since Mr. Curtis passed away?

Am I over-reading into that or did it take no time at all for Mrs. Curtis to cut the Fugly tie?

    ReplyDelete
  194. You won't find any of those comments anymore, re; Champ. All the comments disappeared when fugs went to wordpress.
I still have the e-mail fugs sent me, though:)
$1600.00+ dollars, to euth a very lame horse. How much did YHI get? Did the farrier ever get paid?

Oh, and for asking for receipts/proof, I was called a crack-head.
yeah, horse rescue feel good story FAIL.

    ReplyDelete
  195. Holy a lotta cats, Batman! I think the people who are suggesting Fugs has an animal hoarding issue going on are on the money. I know how easy it is to get into the mode of "I can afford just one more," but the truth is, if you stretch yourself too thin, you're asking for trouble. And as we all know, trouble usually comes in the form of a $1,000+ vet bill at the most inopportune moments.
